The Old Town Predator series is a group of high end fishing kayaks. The Advanced R&D team at Johnson Outdoors Watercraft was tasked with utilizing an existing motor unit from a sister company; Minn Kota motors, and designing a console that connects to the Predator 13 hull.

Before leaving Johnson Outdoors I had produced the Industrial design for the new PDL Drive and created the initial boat CAD for how the system would integrate into the Predator Kayak. I also re-designed the seat to incorporate a storage pocket underneath.

Role: Responsible for all Industrial Design work from ideation phase to production CAD (Solidworks) geometry.

Interchangeable Console Options:

Originally I was assigned to future proof the Predator XL to fit a motor (Minn Kota), utility, flush (Exo-Ridge) and peddle drive console. It was determined that the peddle drive would take much longer to develop and may require a different port design. For this reason, only three consoles were developed to go with the Predator XL.

Minn Kota Console:

-45-pound thrust saltwater grade electric motor.

-Variable speed control with forward and reverse.

-LED charge indicator.

-Internal water proof USB charger.

-Sonar head unit mount (top) and sonar transducer mount (bottom) with internal wire and battery storage.

-Dry storage compartment.

-Easy raise motor automatically disconnects kill-switch and deploys a kickstand to help clear weeds from prop or avoid obstructions.

Utility Console:

-Sonar head unit mount (top) and sonar transducer mount (bottom) with internal wire and battery storage.

-Dry storage compartment.

Exo-Ridge Console:

-Continuation of Exo-Ridge pattern on the Predator deck to provide an unobstructed fishing platform (mainly for fly-fishing).

-Transducer mount on boat hull.
